Supernova instills confidence

Following through on Bank One ATMs promise impressive

Year after year, new IU Student Association administrations come and go, with promises rarely fulfilled. In the spring, the current administration Supernova, following the lead of those that have come before, made promises that most students were skeptical of. But to Supernova's great credit, only months into their administration, it is moving forward and making differences.\nThe administration, made up of President senior Jake Oakman, Vice President of Congress senior Christopher Smith, Vice President for administration junior Jeff Wuslich and Treasurer senior Emily Kolles, was sworn in April 15 and went to work right away. And already, they have made a difference. \nOne of their promises was to undo an action that took place last year: the removal of Bank One ATMs from around campus. It used to be you could find several different banks' ATMs on campus, providing students with easy access to their money. Yet last year, the only ATMs you could find were for the IU Credit Union. This created a problem, since not every student has an account there. Supernova wanted Bank One back on campus to provide the service to more students, and it looks as though they might do just that.\n"It will make one more bank accessible to students," Wuslich said. "It will also make things a little safer since students won't have to walk so far."\nWhile the final decision is not up to Supernova, they have both the administration and Bank One officials talking it over. Thus, Supernova has done its part.\nOther initiatives Supernova proposed is to make school buildings open later hours, getting change machines in the laundry rooms of the dorms, bringing back sibling's weekend and organizing a campus-wide bash.\nThis paper has been fairly critical in recent years of the student government. But to see a new administration following through on an early promise is wonderful and they deserve credit. Hopefully Supernova won't stop there. Keep it up, and set the standard for what student government should be.\nStaff vote: 8 - 0 - 2\nyes - no - abstain
