Students 'let the good times roll' for Homecoming

Homecoming parade will conclude in pep rally at Sample Gates

It's official: "Let the Good Times Roll."\nIU students will be rolling across campus today continuing the week-long homecoming celebration with a parade around Bloomington.\nThe parade starts at 5:30 p.m. with entrants lining up in front of Willkie Quad, 150 N. Rose St. From there, the parade will follow south, turning west onto Third Street. Participants will then turn north onto Indiana Avenue, with the parade concluding at the Sample Gates.\nStudents will be lined up in everything from a decorative float to a pair of running sneakers. Anyone can participate; the parade is a chance for all students to decorate a trailer, truck, car, bicycle or just march along, the Student Alumni Association said. \nAll entrants will be judged during the parade, said senior Kylie Bauer, an SAA member.\n"We are pretty much going with tradition this year," Bauer said. "We have approximately 80 units consisting of decorated floats by fraternities and sororities and a lot of decorated cars. All entries are going to be judged on the incorporation of the theme, creativity and overall appearance."\nThere are many ways students can take part in this year's parade.\nStudents can build a float, decorate a car, decorate a bicycle or march in a group. Students can get creative, members of the SAA said, keeping in mind the spirit of IU and this year's theme. In past parades students have rollerbladed, rode unicycles and even pulled wagons. \nFans will meet football coach Cam Cameron, football players, cheerleaders, Redsteppers and the Marching Hundred at Sample Gates for the pep rally, beginning immediately following the parade. Winners from the parade will be announced, and students will meet this year's king and queen, who will be crowned during halftime of Saturday's football game.
