Distinguished Professor Ronald A. Hites and Senior Scientist in Chemistry John C. Huffman have been honored with inclusion by the Institute for Scientific Information in the group's new online database of the world's most cited and influential scientific authors.\nHites is one of only 96 scientists to be designated as a highly cited author for his work in applied science or engineering, while Huffman is one of 98 highly cited authors in the field of chemistry. Researchers selected for inclusion comprise less than one half of one percent of the almost 5 million researchers in the ISI Citation Database from 1981 to 1999.\nHites and Huffman are featured at www.ISIHighlyCited.com , a Web site for the American Chemical Society National Meeting. The site brings together the publication and achievement records of preeminent researchers. About 19 million articles or source records were identified and evaluated to determine the most highly cited researchers.\nHites teaches environmental chemistry in IU's School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Prior to joining the IU faculty in 1979, he was an associate professor of chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.\nHuffman has been recognized by ISI as one of the most highly cited scientists since they started compiling data and previously was identified as the 11th most prolific scientist in the world for the decade 1981-90.
