Poor Sunday round hurts Hoosiers

Team finishes 6th at Big Ten tournament

The men's golf team struggled to get through the Finkbine Golf Course Sunday in the Big Ten Championship. \nThe Hoosiers finished sixth overall. Minnesota won the event, followed by Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern and Michigan State.\nThe team shot a round of 300, 12 over par -- the second-worst score of Sunday's final round. Wisconsin was the only team to shoot worse with a 13 over par.\nFreshman Heath Peters, after leading the Hoosiers in Saturday's round, shot his worst of the championship Sunday. He finished with a 79, seven over par. Junior Ben Davidson led the Hoosiers in the final round with a 72, followed by freshman Jeff Overton's score of 74. Junior Aldo Jordan and freshman Rob Ockenfuss each shot a 77, five over par.\nSaturday, the Hoosiers finished their rounds tied for third place with Minnesota and only six strokes out of the lead. Purdue had the lead with a 54-hole score of 861, and Illinois trailed by only two strokes.\nPeters had the most production on the day, finishing with a round of 70. Peters started his round with a bogey on No. 10 but immediately eagled No. 11 to move to 1-under. He parred the rest of the holes on the course except for No. 16, a birdie; No. 6, another eagle; and No. 17, a bogey.\nOverton's round of 73 featured three birdies and four bogeys, and Davidson carded a 71 with four birdies and three bogeys. Davidson's one-under-par round moved him from 10th place into a sixth-place tie with a three-round score of 214 at the end of Saturday's play.\nJordan shot his round parring eight of his first nine holes and three more on the back nine. He also recorded back-to-back birdies to start the back nine, three bogeys and another birdie to end the day with a round of 73.\nOckenfuss did not score for the Hoosiers but recorded a two-over-par 74.\nThe team's 287 round tied Penn State for the second-best round of the day. Only Illinois, with a six-under-par 282, had a better round.
