I normally don't respond to columns in the IDS, but after reading James Boyd's column on March 29, entitled "Fight the evil Parking Operations power," I feel I have to share my thoughts.\nWhat Boyd seems to forget throughout his entire column is that he was illegally parked. It is not like Parking Operations is giving illegitimate parking tickets. There are posted signs everywhere that lets a driver know whether they can park there. So, Mr. Boyd, if you don't have the appropriate decal or sticker, don't park there. That is the simple solution to your problem. \nYou can always take the buses to get to your meetings -- and I guarantee you won't get a ticket then. \nWhat is most disturbing about your column is that you state that Parking Operations has "the most evil and heartless individuals working for them." That is not true. Doug Porter, the head of Parking Operations, is one of the nicest people that I have met in my three years at IU. The people actually writing/typing the tickets are only doing their jobs. \nCut them some slack.\nWhat Boyd also doesn't realize is that you can appeal your parking ticket. While most of the time you probably don't have a legitimate claim, Parking Operations has often forgiven rare offenders. Indeed, because you are the model citizen and have had only two tickets, I think you would qualify. \nMr. Boyd, before crying about a parking ticket that was properly given to you and calling for, in essence, a revolt against Parking Operations, take a deep breath and take some Valium. While we all understand that getting a ticket is frustrating considering the lack of public parking on campus, there are many different ways of getting places.
