Nobody should see 'Somebody'

Joe Somebody -PG\nStarring: Tim Allen, Kelly Lynch, James Belushi\nDirected by: John Pasquin\nShowing: Showplace East 11\n"Joe Somebody" could've been something. But a great plot idea is wasted on a clean family flick, one only a child could enjoy. \nThe plot lays a path for what could've been a great movie. Tim Allen (playing another average nobody) takes his kid to work for a class project, and she witnesses him getting beat up by the company bully. Allen loses his pride and figures the only way to regain it is to challenge his conqueror to a rematch. Instantly Allen's co-workers believe he's now somebody.\nAllen begins training for the big fight, enlisting the help of a martial arts master, played by James Belushi, who dons a Japanese headband that brings back memories of his brother's popular "SNL" character. After three weeks of popularity and training, the fight time finally arrives, and Allen finds himself thinking that the way to win the fight may be by not fighting at all.\nWhen most people hear the word "fight" they don't hesitate to gather around and watch whether they want to or not. "Joe Somebody" drags through the entire movie, and the only reason the viewer stays interested is so they can finally see the big fight at the end. This isn't the first time Tim "The Toolman" Taylor has teamed up with director John Pasquin. They also made "The Santa Clause" and the unhighly successful "Jungle 2 Jungle." 'Somebody' isn't any better than either.\n"Somebody" aims at kids for laughs, but is too squeaky clean to be believable. In one scene, Allen scolds his daughter for calling someone a 'dirt bag,' and at that point, the movie just isn't tolerable anymore.\n"Joe" does manage to pull a few laughs, and Belushi manages to jab a few good low blows, but for the most part Joe Somebody swings way short of a knockout.
