IU takes 5th in nationals

The IU Men's Club Volleyball team tied for fifth at last week's National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association's national championships in Kansas City, Mo. \nThe Hoosiers entered the tournament ranked No. 7 nationally and second in the Midwest region. Thursday, as the top seed in its pool, IU defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater, Missouri and Army in two games to place first in the pool. \nFriday, IU survived six match points in the second game and scored eight consecutive points in the third to defeat Wisconsin-Oshkosh. IU later defeated Iowa to position itself in the gold medal bracket. \nSaturday, the team defeated CSU Chico 25-21, 26-24 setting up a quarterfinal match with second ranked Colorado. The Hoosiers were defeated in three games 26-24,16-25, 15-10 to the eventual runners up, ending their season with a 42-5-2 record. Senior middle blocker Mike Pinger was named second team All-American. The young Hoosiers will lose two seniors this spring and will return five starters next year.
