Folk rock trio Guster will headline Union Board concert to kick off Little 500

Folk rock trio Guster will take the stage at the IU Auditorium April 16 to kick off Little 500 festivities on campus. The concert, sponsored by Union Board, will begin at 7:30 p.m. with opening act Flickerstick. \nBoston-based Guster, composed of Adam Gardner and Ryan Miller on vocals and guitar and Brian Rosenworcel on percussion, has enjoyed tremendous success on the college rock scene since the group's inception in 1992. Meshing vocals, guitars and the beats of bongos, the band has released two albums, Parachute and Goldfly, and has recently signed a major contract with Hybrid/Sire Records. A new album is due out later this year.\nFlickerstick, an alternative rock band from Fort Worth, Tex., began playing the Dallas live circuits in May 1998. They have since appeared on VH1's "Bands on the Run" reality music show and signed a recording contract with Epic Records.\nThe program tracked Flickerstick and three other acts for eight weeks as they traveled throughout the country. After 16 episodes, Flickerstick was announced the winners. They received $50,000 in cash, $10,000 in equipment, a showcase for the record industry and a music video on VH1.\n"Flickerstick was hand-selected to be the opening act for this year's Little 500 concert," Union Board concerts director Adam Blake said. "They now have a national fan base and are currently headlining their own tour, selling thousands of tickets to their shows…Union Board is very fortunate to be able to make Flickerstick a part of our Little 500 concert."\nPast Little 500 acts include Nelly and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
