Czech Prime Minister calls for protection of journalists

PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- Czech Prime Minister Vladimir Spidla said Wednesday that the people behind a failed plot to kill an investigative reporter must be brought to justice.\n"I consider it necessary to give full support to all those who are working on solving the case," Spidla said in a statement sent to The Associated Press. He said the Czech government needs to send the message that journalists can work freely, "limited only by the rules of ethics."\nOn Monday, police said a former senior foreign ministry official, Karel Srba, and three others were arrested last week for allegedly plotting to kill Sabina Slonkova, a reporter with the daily Mlada Fronta Dnes.\nAnother suspect, who reported the alleged plot to police a day before it was to be carried out July 9, has not been arrested.
