6 athletes qualify for NCAA meet

Coach Randy Heisler did not have high expectations for his athletes going into this weekend's 15-team meet at Arizona State because of his team's recent intense training. Instead, he got a surprise from the three-day Baldy Castillo Invitational.\nThe Hoosiers won six events and provisionally qualified six athletes for the NCAA Championships in six events.\nOne of these athletes is sophomore Irina Kharun, who started practicing last week after coming off her tennis season. Kharun won the javelin by 16 feet and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA championship.\nThe Hoosier sprinters continued their dominance over opponents with sophomore Rachelle Boone winning the 100-meters and 200-meters and provisionally qualifying in both. \nJunior Tia Trent and sophomore Danielle Carruthers claimed first in the 400-meters and the 100-meter hurdles respectively. Trent provisionally qualified in her victory.\nTwo-time All-American senior Jennifer Brown hurled her way to a second-place finish in the shot put and also provisionally qualified.\nThe Hoosiers will travel to Virginia this weekend for the Colonial Relays.
