Best breakfast in city limits

Deli does breakfast

Village Deli
Cuisine: Breakfast
Average Breakfast Cost: $2.50
Location: 409 E. Kirkwood
Rating Ask for seconds Most people have heard of the Village Deli, a cute little restaurant on Kirkwood located next to what used to be the Red Chair Bakery and Ben and Jerry's. Now, its closest neighbors are Nick's and the Café Pizzeria. This little deli offers burgers, sandwiches and falafel vegetarian dishes, but also has daily specials such as bar-b-que or fish sandwiches. I have been once or twice for lunch and dinner, tasting their soup of the day and chicken pita sandwich, but I am more impressed with their breakfast. But it's not just any breakfast, but "the best breakfast in town." One morning before exams last semester, my roommates and I went to try this "best breakfast in town," and now we have a problem. We cannot stop going! Once a week, as tradition, we take the walk from our house to Kirkwood for breakfast. The service is fast and friendly with steam coming out of the hot chocolate cups and rising generously from the ham and cheese omelet. The wait staff has always been friendly to us at seven in the morning and even starts up conversations with us. My theory has been to try something new every time I have gone for breakfast, yet my roommate is a stickler for the early bird special, which is a choice of either two eggs and toast, biscuits and gravy or a short stack of pancakes plus a cup of coffee for only $2.50. These pancakes are about the size of a nine-inch platter and, topped with blueberries, bananas, walnuts or peanut butter chips and chocolate chips, they flop over the plate. Their omelets are nice and fluffy three egg omelets with melted cheese oozing out of it and vegetables piping hot folded tenderly underneath the eggs. Their veggie selection includes all vegetables that you would not think would be in an omelet. Personally, I was not a fan of eating broccoli with my eggs, but it did go well with the other choices of vegetables. If you want to get a good start on your day before heading off to class, the Village Deli is definitely the place. It offers something different than the traditional Denny's or Waffle House. I know that I have cleaned my plate every time I choose the Village Deli!
