Team loses to Wisconsin, defeats Penn State

After beating Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten tournament last Thursday, the IU women's team lost to Wisconsin Friday, 4-2.\nThe seventh-seeded Hoosiers beat the 10th-seeded Nittany Lions 4-1 at the Indiana Varsity Courts.\nFreshman Inga Radel, who was 28-2 going into the match, was moved to the No. 1 spot prior to the start of the tournament and she easily defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-2.\nPrior to the singles matches, the Hoosiers won the doubles point with two wins, and a win by retirement. At the No.1 spot, Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran won 8-2, and at the No. 3, Martina Grimm and Amanda Field won by the same score. At the No. 3, Radel and Dominika Walterova's match was retired at 4-3, with the IU duo in the lead.\nIU led the match 3-0, with Radel finishing it off with her victory at No.1. The lone Hoosier loss was at No. 3 with Linda Tran falling 6-2, 6-1. Field and Schlukebir's matches were abandoned.\nIn the second round of the tournament, the Hoosiers (17-9) fell to the second-seeded Badgers (15-7). \nIU came away from the doubles matched with the point from the duos of Schlukbir and Tran and Radel and Walterova.\nBut Wisconsin dominated the singles by taking the No. 2-5 spots for the win. Only Radel, named April's Big Ten Player of the Month, beat her opponent, 6-0, 6-4.\nWisconsin went on to face Northwestern in the championship match, but lost 4-1. IU is awaiting a decision about whether or not they will receive an invite to the NCAA tournament.
