Burglar arrested at Walnut Knolls Apartments

After repeated burglaries at the Walnut Knolls Apartments, police have arrested one suspect and are still looking for another. \nBrian Recker, 19, of Carmel, was arrested Sunday and charged with two counts of possession of stolen property, two charges of burglary and theft, according to jail officials. \nBloomington Police Department Captain Joe Qualters described the following incident: A resident of Walnut Knolls returned from spring break to find an amplifier, guitar and a stereo missing. Police officers arrived and spoke to a maintenance person who had seen a tenant, later found to be Recker, and another male acting suspiciously and hanging around a maroon vehicle the day before. This maintenance person also indicated that he had seen these same two suspects carrying things in and out of buildings March 15, the date of another Walnut Knolls burglary. \nThe police officers approached an apartment that had a '91 maroon Chevy Caprice in front, noticing a blanket covering the back seat of the car.\nAccording to Qualters, one suspect evaded police slipping out a window and Recker spoke to the officers. Recker confirmed that the Caprice was his car and he also gave police permission to search the vehicle, Qualters said. The police recovered items in the back seat and in the trunk of the vehicle that implicated Recker in two burglaries, Qualters said. The property recovered included an amplifier, speakers, VCR's, a guitar, receivers, CD players and DJ turntables; totaling hundreds of dollars worth of property. \nRecker remains in the Monroe County Jail on a bond of $20,000 surety and $500 cash said jail officials. Police are still looking for Recker's accomplice. \nWalnut Knolls officials would not comment on this ongoing investigation and Manager Bob Maxwell could not be reached.
