Brand recommends for Stephan to stay

After serving as interim vice president for six months, IU President Myles Brand recommended to the IU board of trustees that Bill Stephan be named vice president for public affairs and government relations. \n"(Stephan) has come to know IU exceptionally well, and that, when combined with an excellent understanding of the state, positions him to be a superb representative for the University to the media and governmental bodies," Brand said in a statement issued Dec. 21.\nPrior to accepting his current position, Stephan, an attorney, served as special assistant to the president and worked on economic development issues for the University. He also served as chief of staff to former Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith and served as president of the Indianapolis Private Industry Council. \nStephan looks forward to "telling the story of IU" by working more closely with other groups from around IU, including IUSA, IU athletics and IU Alumni Association. \n"I am very much interested in working with our colleagues in these areas," Stephan said. "I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve the University"
