Saturday, the football team defeated rival Kentucky 26-15 to end the season on a good note. Despite this, it was another down season for the football team. In order for the team to start fresh next season, it needs a new head coach. \nThis has been Cam Cameron's fifth season as head coach at IU, during which time he has amassed an overall record of 18-37. The five wins registered this season mark a personal best for Cameron, having registered totals of two, four, four and three prior to this year. IU has also not made it to a bowl game during Cameron's tenure, making IU the only team in the Big Ten during the past four seasons not to go to a bowl. \nMinnesota's Glen Mason, Purdue's Joe Tiller and Illinois' Ron Turner all were hired at the same time as Cameron, and all three have also met with much more success than Cameron. Last year, Tiller led Purdue to the Big Ten Championship and a Rose Bowl berth, while Turner has taken Illinois to the Big Ten Championship and a Bowl Championship berth this year. It's not a Rose Bowl berth because the Rose Bowl is holding the National Title game this year. Mason has also led Minnesota to bowl games in his time there. \nCameron has had senior quarterback Antwaan Randle El and senior running back Levron Williams at his disposal for the past four years. The two have combined to be one of the most prolific offensive duos in the NCAA in the past couple of years, both going into the record book several times during their stay at IU. Next year, Cameron won't have Randle El and Williams to continue to carry the team.\nSome might say that Cameron should be kept around for the remaining three years of his contract to avoid extra spending on a buyout for his contract along with the salary offered for the new head coach. Cameron took that reason out of the equation Saturday during his post-game news conference, saying: "Now, with all that being said, I will tell you this -- if Indiana University does not want me to be their head coach, they do not owe me a penny. They do not owe me a penny...if the rationale is to keep me to save money, that is not an issue."\nSomewhere down the line, Cameron might end up being a good head coach somewhere, but now is not that time and IU is not that place. Athletics Director Michael McNeely needs to do the right thing and find the team a new head coach. We need a coach who can lead the team to a winning season and a bowl game. We need a coach who can get people excited about IU football again.\nStaff vote: 13-0-3
