Alumni group goes for Purdue's jugular

IU is out for blood. \nThe fifth annual IU versus Purdue Blood Donor Challenge is under way.\nThe competition pits alumni, students, faculty and staff from both campuses against one another in an effort to raise the most units of blood.\nThe drive is sponsored by the IU Alumni Association and Purdue Alumni Association along with other student-led organizations including the National Residence Hall Association. Union Board has also joined the Purdue Union Board in its own mini-competition.\nThe first of four opportunities for blood donation began yesterday at Read Center. Drives will also take place today at the Assembly Hall parking lot, Nov. 8 at Foster Quadrangle and Nov. 13 in the Indiana Memorial Union Solarium. Each on-campus drive runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.\nStudents, faculty and Monroe County Alumni can also donate at one of the six Indiana Blood Center facilities. Each donation will count toward the IU versus Purdue brawl.\nThe winner of the competition will be announced Nov. 24 at the IU-Purdue football game here in Bloomington.\nIU won the first year of the competition, and Purdue has been victorious every year since.\n"Our overall goal is to raise as much blood as possible," said IU Alumni Association member Scott Siegel. "The contest is really a secondary, fun thing for the schools to do"
