The word serendipity simply means a fortunate accident. "Serendipity"'s fortunate accident was getting such a good cast to act in this funny, romantic and suspenseful love story.\n Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) and Sara Tomas (Kate Beckinsale) are united when both grab for the same black cashmere gloves in a crowded Bloomingdale's five days before Christmas. They spend the day with each other and have the most incredible time of their lives, until the end of the night when Sara suggests that they never see each other again until fate brings them together. A few years down the road, both are engaged to be married to other people, but their thoughts are still focused on that one amazing night together.\n Now because this is a love story, it is predictable, but the twists and turns throughout keep you interested and excitingly awaiting what destiny has in store for them. Cusack is back to his usual amazing self, playing almost the same character he has done before in films such as "High Fidelity" and "Grosse Pointe Blank," being a nervous, panic-stricken and love-obsessed regular guy. His sometimes illogical outlook on life makes his characters what they are. Beckinsale also does an amazing job, but it doesn't seem that she has to stretch so far to play the role of a cute, lovable, British 'bird.' Eugene Levy also shows up for a bit, providing the movie with a bunch of laughs as an annoyingly funny salesclerk.\n It's a typical love movie, but a great one with many original qualities as well. The criss-crossed paths throughout the story provide the audience with an omniscient knowledge of what the characters do not and adds to the suspenseful action. \n "Serendipity" is the perfect date movie and could perhaps be one of the finest first date movies -- as long as the girl doesn't turn to you at the end of the night and say she wants to let fate decide your future together.
