A committee appointed by IU President Myles Brand to select a new president for the IU Alumni Association met for the first time Wednesday.\nThe 10-member committee, chaired by IU Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Terry Clapacs, is looking to replace Jerry Tardy, the IUAA's past president, who died of cancer earlier this semester. \nTardy led the IUAA, one of the nation's five largest such organizations, for 14 years. \nBrand named John Hobson as interim president and chief executive officer of the IUAA earlier this month. \nClapacs said the committee hopes to complete its work by January.\nThe search committee includes three former volunteer leaders of the IUAA: Dr. Clarence Boone of Gary; Richard Searles of Indianapolis and Patrick Shoulders of Evansville. The current chair of the association, Lynn Lewis of Clarksville, Ind., is also a member. Other committee members include Frank Otte, Indianapolis, a former student member of the board of trustees; Curt Simic, president of the IU Foundation; Trustee Sue Talbot, Bloomington; Bette Davenport, director of student activities and alumni relations at IU-East; and Sara McNabb, executive assistant to Brand.
