Alumni plaintiffs file for summary judgment

The plaintiffs in a lawsuit alleging IU violated Open Door Laws when it fired former men's basketball coach Bob Knight filed a new motion for summary judgment with the Indiana Court of Appeals.\nThe plaintiffs want an affidavit by Knight to be entered as evidence.\nThe motion was mailed Friday and will officially be filed when court reopens Tuesday.\nThe Knight supporters, who filed a lawsuit last October, allege IU President Myles Brand violated Indiana's Open Door Laws when he fired Knight last September. Brand consulted with two groups of four trustees before firing the coach.\nThe University maintains no quorum was present at any meeting with Brand, eliminating the need for public notice that open door laws call for.\nIf the Indiana Court of Appeals sends the case back to Civil Court, IU officials could be forced to testify.\nIU won a judgment to get the case into appeals court. \nThe lawsuit filed by the alumni group seeks full public disclosure of Knight's employment and other records, in accordance with Knight's approval. \nHebron, Ind. attorney Gojko Kasich, lead counsel for the plaintiffs, said he could not comment on any details, but he said, "This case is turning into a political hot potato."\nUniversity officials have declined to comment on the pending legal matter.
