Penny Lane, a 4-month-old German shepherd and Akita mix, showed her support for America Thursday, marching around wearing the flag around her neck as a bandanna.\nAlong with Penny Lane, students across campus displayed support for their country wearing red, white and blue, carrying flags and displaying banners. \nFreshman Morgan Peters, Penny Lane's owner, decided to make the bandannas and sell them to students for $3 Wednesday while looking for an American flag to hang from her house. Friday, Peters will sell the bandannas across campus.\n"It helps us to unite and know that we will be OK if we stick together," said Peters. "I think people shouldn't stand out as individuals. We need to come together and show support."\nAt Thursday's gathering at the Fine Arts Plaza to show University solidarity, students wore orange ribbons -- which stand for international peace and unity. Fourteen banners painted with hand-prints and signed by students were displayed across the plaza. These banners were then given to various student organizations to display at their offices. \nBridgette Tilyou, junior, along with her friend Natascha Guluk, sophomore, wore "I love N.Y." shirts to the gathering Thursday. Tilyou plans to wear hers all week long. \n"I wore this shirt because it is the only thing I can do to help," Guluk said. "I can't leave school to go to New York to help, but I want to show support. I hope that people can stay united, because out of this tragedy can come togetherness."\nFreshman Max Feinberg made a statement by wearing red and white striped warm-up pants along with a bright blue shirt. \n"I live in Manhattan, only a matter if minutes from the World Trade Center," he said. "I had a friend who lost his mother, and this touches real close to home. I'm fairly patriotic, and when it comes to New York, I'm really patriotic.\n"It is nice to show we care because there is not much that can be done."\nJunior Tiffany Brooks carried an American flag -- "because we should. Because our country is going through the most difficult thing that our generation has ever faced.\n"What I want to express is that we were attacked by intelligence, not by military, and we should not fight back with military but with intelligence and unity," Brooks said. "Intelligence means to not be ignorant, not to be racist"
