The IDS has decided to update its look and move forward in the newspaper business.\nSome changes will be noticeable, while others will not be.\nNewspapers redefine their look every four to six years by updating their appearance to reflect the changing times and make it more visually appealing. The IDS changed its look two years ago, and we have been tweaking here and there. This year we are completing the final stages and made a few final tweaks, which we think will be beneficial to all readers.\nOur front page started with black text in a box down the left side letting you know what stories you could find inside. First we changed the color of our name from black to red and moved the teasers to the bottom of the page.\nThis year we switched the name of the newspaper to black. We put the teasers back up at the top where you can find them more easily. The preceding box seats were less noticeable and not as effective.\nWe also switched up the opinion page. The cartoons are at the top of the page rather than at the bottom. (We are looking for editorial cartoonists, so contact us or one of the opinion editors if you are interested.) We're also letting you have more of a say. Every Thursday in the opinion section we will feature a "student voice" section in place of the daily cartoon. The "student voice" will be a display of students and their comments on current events that are highlighted in the IDS.\nAlso, at the end of each IDS story you will find the reporter's name and his or her contact information. To allow for even more accessibility for you, we will be listing the editor of that section and his or her e-mail address at the top of the page. Please use this information to send comments, questions or concerns.\nYou will be able to find other changes throughout the semester in various sections. We'll be sure to keep you up-to-date on what to look for and when. We hope you enjoy the progress so far and remember that we are always working behind the scenes to improve your daily newspaper.
