It seems to me that everyone who complains about the parking tickets on this campus have one thing in common: They all get parking tickets!\nWouldn't they avoid getting those tickets by not parking illegally? James Boyd said in his column ("Fight the evil Parking Operations power," March 28) that he did in fact park illegally on campus. So why shouldn't you find a ticket on your windshield? If you don't want to get the $35 ticket, don't park illegally. It's not a hard concept to learn. \nNonetheless, many people believe they have a right to park in any spot they want, regardless if they pay for the permit or not. Yes, Mr. Boyd, you are correct that Parking Operations has an ulterior motive in charging the rates that they do. It is to deter parking violations! Parking is a problem on this campus for multiple reasons. One of the main reasons is desire to keep the campus beautiful. \nWhen the original football stadium was torn down, many people wanted to pave it over and make it a parking lot. But the president of the University decided that the site would be better suited for an arboretum. I know I am much happier that we have that instead of an ugly parking structure. The money that is raised from people who are parking where they should not is used to pay for these enormously expensive structures. \nThese stuctures are not cheap and are bonded for many years just to pay for them. The other main reason that parking is a problem is people like you, James. Illegal parking throws the whole system out of whack. If you need to park at night on campus, buy the new L-pass. The main reason I'm defending the system is that it wouldn't be a problem for you if you park your car correctly, or, heaven forbid, use public transportation or even walk to reduce the amount of cars on the street. Just don't whine and complain like a 6-year-old when you get caught doing something you know is wrong.
Boyd should value a beautiful campus
