According to Colorado news outlets, Colorado State University athletics director Tim Weiser -- the frontrunner to replace athletics director Clarence Doninger -- withdrew his name from consideration Wednesday.\nColorado State sports information director Gary Ozzello spoke with Weiser Wednesday, and said Weiser plans to remain in Fort Collins, Colo. \n"When I spoke to him today, he reiterated to me that he was at Colorado State and that he anticipated being there for a long time," Ozzello told The Associated Press.\nThe other finalist is San Diego Chargers Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Michael McNeely. He served as athletics director from 1997-1999 at the University of Pacific in Stockton, Calif. \nAn IU trustee confirmed late Wednesday that a decision has been made and an announcement could come as quickly as today. \n"I do know that the two candidates were notified (Wednesday)," trustee Ray Richardson said. "I expect to get a phone call tomorrow saying it's a done deal."\nRichardson said he doesn't know the circumstances of the decision.\nUniversity spokeswoman Susan Dillman said she could neither confirm nor deny the reports that an announcement is imminent.\nWeiser told the IDS Tuesday he would comment only on his current job.\nMcNeely, through San Diego Chargers public relations officials, also denied comment. \nWhoever is chosen will enter an athletics department that has struggled to record a profit. In 1998, with expenditures exceeding $24 million, IU recorded a profit of $7,761, according to IU's statement of revenue and expenditures. In 1999 -- with a budget of more than $26 million -- IU profited $43,046.\nAt Pacific, McNeely built the athletics department into a viable revenue outlet for the university, said Cindy Spiro, associate athletics director and senior women's administrator.\n"We needed an entire restoration," Spiro said. "We needed to bring our program into the 21st century. Michael completely restructured the whole program and made a whole new image."\nWeiser also has a record of fiscal responsibility.\nAs Eastern Michigan's athletics director from 1993-1997, Weiser eliminated an inherited debt of nearly $700,000 and ended his last fiscal year with a $400,000 surplus.
Weiser unlikely to leave CSU
