Little 500 more than drunken students

Matt Csanyi has absolutely no idea what the Little 500 is about ("Little 500: The stupidest IU tradition," March 28). The Little 500 is not about getting drunk, as he attempted to illustrate in his article. I think he is just a little bitter because he was a very poor rider during his stint in the Little 500. \nWhy? Because he didn't have the determination to train like many of the other respectable riders. So, to boost his tiny ego, he had to write a column in the IDS that discourages people from attending the race. As a third-year rider in the Women's Little 500, I must say that both men and women Little 5 riders are the most dedicated, strong and successful people I have ever met in my life. They train all year for a race that lasts less than two hours. \nIf Matt doesn't understand this, that is his own fault. While a lot of people might drink before the races, this does not take away from the fact that IU students are supportive of the riders. They put in more time and energy in one season than Matt has ever expended in his entire life. \nNow, if Matt had taken his bottled up energy he usually uses to talk about how cute he thinks he is, and put it toward training, he would still be riding. While Matt was attempting to be funny, it was just an attempt to get attention that he is obviously lacking. It was a slap in the face to all the riders who have been training for months and for some, years for the Little 500. It is the greatest tradition at IU and it will not be destroyed by people like Matt.
