Game of rivals marks end for facility

It's fitting that the final meet in Purdue's Lambert Pool is against its biggest rival, IU. \nIU heads to West Lafayette to battle Purdue at 1 p.m. Saturday at the 61-year-old Lambert Pool. The aging venue is being replaced by the Aquactics Center, set to open in August. \nThe Hoosiers are set on beating the Boilermakers for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Purdue has won 10 of 18 meetings between the two schools. "This is a great opportunity for us to come in and beat our in-state rival under pretty exciting conditions," coach Dorsey Tierney said. "As far as rivalries are concerned, I consider Purdue our biggest rival, in any sport across the board. It could be chess; it doesn't really matter. I can't wait."\nIU (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) is ranked 22nd in the nation. Resurgent Purdue (10-1, 3-1 Big Ten) is ranked for only the second time ever, at No. 25. \nThe Hoosiers have toppled both ranked teams they've faced this season, No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 20 Northwestern. \nPurdue is coming off a 128-115 win against Michigan State Saturday in which it won six of 13 events. Senior Gyongyver Lakos has set a pair of Purdue records this season, one in the 100-meter freestlye and the other in the 200-meter freestyle. The Hungarian native also swims on the 200 and 400-meter relay squads. \nPurdue will likely count on Lakos to counter IU's strong relay teams, which have lost only once this season. That loss came to Kentucky in the 400-meter medley relay. \nThe Hoosiers are also fresh off a Big Ten win at Ohio State Saturday. IU captured nine events in a 154-89 triumph. IU was able to grab first and second places in the 400-meter free relay.\nFreshman Sarah Fiden, who will team with senior Jenn Cristy to try to knock off Lakos in the 200 free, won at Ohio State with a time of 1 minute, 54.40 seconds, still more than six seconds slower than Lakos. \nTierney's focus remains on the intense rivalry and keeping the Hoosiers' sparkling slate clean. \n"We're not different from any other athletic team on this campus," she said. "When we go against Purdue, we want to give them our best showing"
