Salaries in story are not the average

This morning I was stunned to see what is obviously considered ... as an average faculty salary. The rates he quotes are double the salary the professors I work with are making. \nIt would be, perhaps, more factual if an actual account was taken of what the lowest faculty salaries actually are, and how many of our professors are in reality making under $75,000. All of this information is available online, but apparently (the IDS) either wasn't aware of this or doesn't care. \nIt was sickening for me, as a staff member who makes about one-fifth of the "reported" faculty salaries, to see this knowing what my faculty, all of whom are hardworking, dedicated individuals to their students and to their fields, are allotted each year. The way these "facts" are presented will leave the average person with the impression that most of our professors are overpaid whiners who make more in a year than many of us will see in a lifetime. \nThis is simply not true, and I would like to see an article, also on the front page, with a more realistic view of the average salary and raises of our professors, the majority of which will never make a salary such as those reported in today's article. It is indeed difficult to grasp the exact point of Mr. Beavers' article. If he was trying to garner sympathy for underpaid faculty and the distinction between their raises and the raises given to the administration, I feel that he fell wide of the mark.
