The women's basketball team beat the buzzer again Monday night against Butler.\nBut nothing rode on freshman guard Nicole Motto's last-second three-pointer.\nA balanced offensive attack and stingy defense by the Hoosiers resulted in a 77-50 rout of the Bulldogs.\n"Our defensive plan worked," coach Kathi Bennett said. "We shut down their high-low game. But offensively, we weren't very sharp."\nThe Hoosiers didn't come crashing out of the gate, shooting only 34.5 percent from the field in the first half.\n"We did a good job against Washington (Friday), and we've shot well in practice," Bennett said. "But we were just off tonight. Still, the statistics speak for themselves. We scored 70 points."\nButler also shot a sub-par percentage from the field in the first half. The difference lay in the long distance. The Hoosiers nailed three three-pointers, two of which came from the hand of senior guard Rainey Alting. Alting lit up the court in the first half, scoring 15 points.\nShe finished with 17 points, playing only 10 minutes after halftime. But the real story of the game was junior center Jill Chapman.\nShe dominated the paint, ending the game with 18 rebounds and 27 points. Chapman, who was plagued by foul trouble in IU's win against Washington, played 34 minutes in Monday's nonconference win. She shot 10-for-16 from the field with four blocks.\nChapman settled down after a sporadic first half.\n"I was just throwing stuff up," Chapman said. "But it started to come down in the second half."\nIn the second half, the Hoosiers widened their lead, which was as high as 30 at one point. Bennett used the opportunity to play the entire roster, including Motto and junior center Jelena Lazic.\n "When subbing players in, I usually go by practice, who worked hard in practice," Bennett said. "Nicole worked her butt off this week, and she looked good out there tonight."\nIn 13 minutes, Motto tallied five points, including a slashing breakaway layup. Ten of the 13 eligible Hoosiers scored.\nFor the Bulldogs (0-2), junior forward Kelly Kuhn led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds.\nButler coach Wendy Gatlin said the Hoosiers gave a strong performance. She commended Bennett, saying IU was hardly recognizable from last season's team.\n"I am completely impressed what coach Bennett has done with this ball club," she said. "They played really good defense and played with heart"
