Leon: The Professional

DVD review

This is the moniker under which director Luc Besson's brilliant hitman-relationship flick "The Professional" was recently released on DVD. \nThe film now contains 24 minutes of footage previously unseen by U.S. audiences, which really lift the film from an above-par action flick to a deep meditation on life and love with a high squib count. \nThe relationship between Leon (Jean Reno) and Mathilda (Natalie Portman) is explored further. These new sequences give Reno and Portman the opportunity to shine with material that is simultaneously sweet and stomach-churning. \nAdd a menacing, cracked-out performance by primo character actor Gary Oldman into the mix and what's left is an action film with substantial meat on its bones.
