Protest rally one of largest in country

To all who participated in the National Day of Protest rally:\nThank you for making our Aug. 21 rally in Bloomington one of the largest in the country. For every two people who rallied, there was one who contacted me to say that an inflexible work schedule had kept him or her from joining us.\nSpecial thanks are due. First, to our line-up of superb and compelling speakers: Rev. Barbara Carlson, Steve Sanders, Rhea Murray, Doris Fox and Benjamin Walker. Second, to the six Scouts who returned their Scouting awards in protest. (Two more former Scouts, including another Eagle Scout, have decided since the rally to return their awards.) \nFinally, to our co-sponsoring organizations: the Bloomington and Seymour chapters of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays; Interweave of Bloomington's Unitarian Universalist Church; Justice, Inc.; Indiana chapter of Human Rights Campaign; Bloomington United; and Indiana Chapter of Pride at Work, AFL-CIO. The various kinds of support these organizations provided were key to the rally's success and to its moral impact.\nThose who wish to join a group of other concerned citizens to continue working toward opening up Hoosier Trails Council Boy Scouts of America to all boys can do so by contacting John Clower (812-336-2533).
