Grant Gelon reportedly transferring to Missouri State

Then-freshman Grant Gelon, now a sophomore, shoots in the three-point contest during 2016 Hoosier Hysteria at Assembly Hall. Gelon left the IU program this summer and will reportedly join the Missouri State program for the 2018-19 season.

Former IU men's basketball guard Grant Gelon will transfer to Missouri State to continue his career, according to a report from ESPN.

Gelon was recruited by former IU Coach Tom Crean and came to the Hoosiers as part of their four-member freshman class in 2016. Gelon asked for his release from IU this summer after Archie Miller took over as coach.

The 6-foot-5 guard originally transferred to State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri, this summer. He will now likely have to sit out a year at Missouri State per NCAA transfer rules, but he will then have three years of eligibility remaining at the Missouri Valley Conference school.

In 12 games with IU last season, Gelon played just 38 total minutes and scored 22 points, including a season-high eight points during a loss at Michigan in January. He made seven of his nine shot attempts throughout the season.

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Gelon was a three-star recruit coming out of Crown Point High School in Crown Point, Indiana. He was rated by 247Sports as the 15th-best player in the state of Indiana for the 2016 class.
