Woman reports sexual assault at north side apartment

A woman reported a possible sexual assault Tuesday afternoon after visiting the residence of a male co-worker Monday evening.

Bloomington Police Department responded to the emergency room of Bloomington Hospital at about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a sexual assault, Sgt. Joseph Crider said.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman, told police she had been with co-workers at a west side restaurant Monday evening. After leaving the restaurant, she visited the suspect’s apartment on the north side of Bloomington, Crider said.

It was there she was sexually assaulted, she told police.

Police spoke with the victim’s sister, who received a phone call from another family member during early morning hours Tuesday that informing her of the incident.

The sister picked up the victim from an apartment that morning, although it was unclear if the apartment was the one at which the incident took place, Crider said.

Based on the sister’s statements, the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The case has been forwarded to detectives, who will follow up with results of the rape kit and suspect statements, Crider said.
