Two IU students have been pumping up the Indianapolis Colts and their fans from the sidelines at the RCA Dome this year. Juniors Lindy Spore and Erin Romine fought for their spots on the Indianapolis Colts cheerleading squad in April with nearly 300 other women.

As a football fan, I have witnessed many a disastrous performance at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. When the Bears schedule comes out every season, I usually can be pretty confident in marking an "L" next to the date they will be in Minneapolis. My most infamous memory occurred in 1992 when Jim Harbaugh called an audible that resulted in a Vikings interception return for a touchdown, which caused "Da Coach," Mike Ditka, to verbally undress an embarrassed Harbaugh on the sideline.

Kenyans finish first in marathons

NEW YORK -- Kenyans again dominated the New York City Marathon Sunday, with Margaret Okayo smashing the course record and Martin Lel winning his first marathon ever. Okayo won the New York race for the second time, dropping to her knees and kissing the ground after crossing the line in two hours, 22 minutes, 31 seconds. She shattered her 2001 course record by nearly two minutes.

The IU Hoosiers women's field hockey team earned its first Big Ten win of the season Friday in its Big Ten finale with a double overtime, upset win over No. 9 Iowa. Although the Hoosiers were able to upset one of the nation's best teams in Iowa, they weren't able to knock off the best team in the nation as they fell Saturday 6-0 to No. 1 Wake Forest.

Being on his feet all day and coming to practice to run for miles used to concern senior Chad Andrews about his performance for the IU men's cross country team. "I'm just glad to be done with student teaching and back in the mix, racing up front," he said. Andrews, an education major, just completed his student teaching, which caused his schedule to be a little awkward.

Colts hold off Dolphins 23-17 for 7th win

Colts 23, Dolphins 17 MIAMI -- Peyton Manning threw for 266 yards and survived a potentially disastrous interception in the closing moments as the Indianapolis Colts beat Miami 23-17 Sunday. Indianapolis and Manning had lost four in a row to the Dolphins, and Manning was 2-8 against Miami entering the game. But the Indianapolis defense turned away a scoring threat with two minutes left when Brian Griese was sacked by Dwight Freeney and fumbled.

LoVecchio sidelined as Minnesota routs IU 55-7

MINNEAPOLIS -- IU coach Gerry DiNardo said earlier in the week that quarterback Graeme McFarland wouldn't get an early opportunity Saturday against the Gophers. Instead, the freshman backup played the whole game. McFarland subbed for an injured Matt LoVecchio at the last minute, but ultimately netted similar results.

A multitude of streaks continued for the men's soccer team Sunday. IU upended the Kentucky Wildcats 1-0 at Armstrong Stadium. The No. 14 Hoosiers (10-3-4, 4-0-1 Big Ten) have not lost a match since Sept. 18 at Notre Dame, when they fell in double overtime. IU has won eight consecutive games, including registering a shutout in six of their last seven matches.

Foreign student enrollment slows at U.S. universities

A new study says the number of foreign students attending U.S. colleges increased by less than 1 percent in 2002-03 -- the lowest growth rate in seven years. It's just the latest piece of evidence that international students are shying away from the United States because of tough immigration rules.
