When a friend of mine started using www.Blogger.com five years ago, I thought this whole blog thing was a fad that would die out when everyone realized that online journals were just an outlet for teenage melodrama. Boy, did I call that one wrong or what?

At is that time in a president's term to appoint judicial nominees. And, like always, the opposing party is planning on filibustering these candidates. This goes on every time a president submits judicial nominees. This happens so often, I am surprised our judicial system can even run properly.

A lot of us have a big goal for IU: a berth in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. But IU President Adam Herbert is looking further into the future. He's determined to make IU a cornerstone in Indiana's economy through life sciences research.

Though IU lost to Purdue 62-58 in overtime, breast cancer research won Sunday as the women's basketball team packed Assembly Hall and broke the all-time single-game attendance record.

Soup Bowl tradition helps local charities feed hungry

Hundreds of ceramic bowls lined the tables of the Bloomington Convention Center Sunday night. Some had intricate shapes and forms, while others barely held their contents. Some were made by children and others were designed by professionals. The bowls were not on display though; each was donated to benefit the area's hungry.

When he walked into one of his classes the first day this semester, sophomore Andrew Lauck was immediately struck by his professor's liberal bias. Lauck said the first words out of his professor's mouth were that he was an ultraliberal and he was proud of it.

In a Friday teleconference with IU's regional campuses, a group of IU administrators discussed a variety of upcoming legislation, including tuition rates, federal funding and human cloning.

IU divers lead Hoosiers to 2nd place breaking records along the way

A small group of black shirts that read "small but mighty" gathered around the diving well Saturday at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The IU swimmers quietly waited as their only hope for second place in the Big Ten Championships balanced on her hands 10 meters above them.

Graduate extends bond past graduation

J. Thomas Forbes believes many things have shaped him throughout his life. But he says his experiences at IU form the foundation of who he is today. Forbes, IU's executive director of state relations, graduated from IU with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1990. As an undergraduate, he served as student body president, a position that first exposed him to political leadership and university government.

Predictability flooded the final night of the Big Ten Championships. First-place honors already were assured to Penn State. Senior swimmers and divers were culminating their careers. IU diving lived up to its esteemed reputation in the Big Ten.

Ban may end driving diversion

It's nearly as dangerous as driving while intoxicated, but many students do it often when they get behind the wheel. According to a recent study by Dong-Chul Seo, a lecturer in the department of Applied Health Science, talking on cell phones while driving is much more of a safety risk than previously thought.

IU starts on its championship journey

Less than a week remains before the men's track team takes its show on the road to Purdue for the Big Ten Indoor Track Championships. The team wrapped up its preparation for the meet this weekend with the final home meet of the year -- the Hoosier Hills Invitational. Several Hoosiers used the meet to work out a few last-minute kinks and turned in strong tune-up performances.

Record crowd not enough for an IU win

Fifteen lead changes. Ten ties. One overtime. 10,022 fans. It all added up for a classic Hoosier-Boilermaker duel. Unfortunately for the IU women's basketball team one part was missing Sunday afternoon -- a win. The Hoosiers fell short of a victory to arch-rival Purdue, falling 62-58 in an overtime. The loss dropped IU to 10-15 overall and 3-11 in the Big Ten.

Knight public-records case likely to be delayed

The Morgan County judge who will preside over a case to decide whether IU must release a report that led to the firing of former men's basketball coach Bob Knight is likely to postpone the IU case to hear another criminal one.

Women's golf team tees up for spring

The IU women's golf team opens its spring campaign today and Tuesday as part of a 15-team field at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. Led by coach Clint Wallman, the Hoosiers look to build on their improvement during the fall season, as well as in the off season.

Hoosiers compete 1 last time before Big Ten's

In their final home meet of the indoor season, the IU distance runners finished strong, earning top results in IU's final indoor home meet -- the Hoosier Hills Invitational. This weekend's meet was the last before the Indoor Big Ten Championships, and IU churned out some top performances only to lose to the Indiana Invaders Track and Field Club several times.
