Kent Cooper Room now renting video games

Where on campus can students learn to skateboard like Tony Hawk, play the guitar like a rock star or hang out with the characters from Star Wars? The Kent Cooper Room in the Herman B Wells Library now features video games available for checkout.

RPS offers housing during winter break

With winter break approaching, many students will travel home, while others will make IU a part of their holiday celebrations. Residential Programs and Services offers housing for those students who choose to stay at IU during winter break. So far, about 70 students have signed up to stay.

While a ruling will probably not be issued until late June 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court began hearing arguments Wednesday for what could turn out to be one of its most controversial decisions in decades. The U.S. Supreme Court is going to consider whether Guantanamo Bay prisoners have a Constitutional right to challenge their detentions in civil courts.

IMU celebrates for all holidays

While most campus decorations are associated with Christian symbolism, student religious group leaders said they were not personally offended by the University’s efforts. However, this year, the IMU has gone “out of its way” to begin including other religions in the winter holiday season, said Rabbi Sue Shifron, director of the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center.

Only two weeks separate students from being free and able to relax for winter break. Those two weeks include one giant obstacle: finals. Students often stay up late cramming for tests, something that makes experts frown. IU health educator Kathryn Brown said students should avoid all-nighters.

Indiana habitats hurt by aquarium dumping

Invasive plant and animal species from pet aquariums have turned up in local waterways, which has put the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department on the offensive. Last spring, it launched the “Got Aquarium?” awareness campaign to discourage locals from dumping their aquariums into natural habitats.
