Friends dance together for final time

For two African American Dance Company members who are also roommates, their last performance with the company was both an emotional and rewarding experience.

When most theatergoers think of the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein musical “Oklahoma!,” they might recall sitting in the audience of a high school performance, struggling to keep their eyes open.But with a talented cast and an award-winning director, audiences can expect to stay wide awake during the IU Department of Theatre and Drama’s upcoming production.

IU's Williams to leave at end of semester

IU freshman guard Nick Williams has decided to transfer to another school at the end of the semester. The 6-foot-4 Williams, from Mobile, Ala., started 29 games last season and averaged 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

After the unofficial vote count declared the Btown ticket had won the IU Student Association elections, we cautiously noted that “it seems Btown has won an IUSA election that won’t have to be decided by the IUSA Supreme Court.”

The Red-Hot ticket was the only one in the IU Student Association election to raise the problem of a lack of funding for the IU Campus Bus Service. Although they naively hinted that an expedient solution was possible, merely bringing up the issue is helpful for awareness.

Messy issue

Nikolas Evans, 21, died April 5 as a result of a head injury sustained during a fist fight. His mother, 42-year-old Missy Evans, requested to harvest the sperm of her deceased son, and after receiving court permission, obtained the sample.

IU-Ball State baseball game canceled

IU's 3 p.m. game today against Ball State has been canceled due to poor field conditions at the Ball Diamond stadium in the Muncie. The game will not be rescheduled.

Offense will look new, but so will defense

Last season, IU suffered the injury bug so bad, it was almost OK to use it as an excuse for the disappointing 3-9 record. Not this year, though – not with this rigorous schedule that boasts many bowl teams. The Hoosiers’ defense must step up even more than the offense.

IU takes win streak to Muncie

IU looks to build on a four-game win streak at 3 p.m. today in Muncie when they take on Ball State (15-15). The Hoosiers (16-17) are currently tied for first place in the Big Ten with a 6-2 conference record.

Senior Ashley Hobbs and sophomore Sara Olson have combined for three straight gems from the mound for the Hoosiers (7-28, 3-7). With a double header at Illinois (22-12, 5-4) tonight, the pitching duo will look to make it five.

A click of the thumb, a slip of the foot: Why texting and walking don't mix

Sophomore Brooke Lichtman stepped into the stairwell of the Herman B Wells library to text her ex-boyfriend. They were fighting through cell phone messages. As she walked down the stairs, eyes locked on the screen, her foot slipped, and she plopped down one, two, three steps. The pain won’t slow her thumbs, she said.

Interim director Lillian Casillas was spending a quiet Friday evening at the First Nations Educational and Culture Center when, to her surprise, in walked several students who happened to be in the building. Soon  they were asking questions and spending time in the center’s study room.

The search committee for the dean of students had its last meeting Tuesday. The candidates have all flown back to their respective schools. Now the campus waits.

Australian Justice Michael Kirby, a longtime human rights advocate and former law school professor, will present this year’s commencement address for the 180th IU graduation ceremony, University officials announced Tuesday.
