Sophomore Ress earns Big Ten’s highest honor

When sophomore Eric Ress won six of his first eight races of the 2010-2011 season and Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, he erased any doubt that he wasn’t ready to claim a spot as one of the premier swimmers in the conference.




Little 500 Individual Time Trials

Cutters’ Young, Teter’s Van Kooten repeat as ITT champions

Individual Time Trials is the first event of the Spring Series after Qualifications. It’s one of the events Teter’s Caitlin Van Kooten won last year. This year wasn’t any different, with Van Kooten finishing at the top with a time of 2:39.41. Like Van Kooten, Cutters’ Eric Young repeated his work from last year, also defending his title finish first with a time of 2:22.

Drouin out for the outdoor season

IU junior high jumper Derek Drouin will sit out the remainder of the outdoor track and field season due to a foot injury.

Hoosiers withstand push from Shawnee State

The IU baseball team scheduled Wednesday’s game against Shawnee State to get in some extra work before opening Big Ten play. However, the Hoosiers got a lot more than they bargained for.

The IU softball team will finish up its 11-game home stand with a non conference duel against Indiana State University today in Bloomington before continuing Big Ten play in Michigan this weekend.

Strong first inning wins it for Hoosiers

Getting off to fast starts is one of the points of emphasis for the IU baseball team, as it stands two days away from its Big Ten opener against Michigan. The Hoosiers (15-8) took a step in that direction Tuesday with a four-run, four-hit opening frame in a 7-3 win against Division II Northern Kentucky (12-9) at Sembower Field.

As the Big Ten portion of the Hoosiers’ season looms, IU coach Tracy Smith worked two extra midweek home games into the schedule beforehand, the first of which comes at 3:05 p.m. today against Northern Kentucky.



Little 500 Team Pursuit

Delta Gamma earns pole with 3-second win

If Saturday’s qualifications were any indication of things to come, the house pairing of Delta Gamma and Sigma Nu will be filled with success and celebration this Little 500 season, as each qualified in first place for this year’s race.Delta Gamma members, who finished with a time of 2:44.76, will have Teter, the defending champions, trailing, as Teter finished in second with a time of 2:47.52. Kent said the rest of the field will be looking at both Teter and Delta Gamma come race day.

Ress finishes 2nd at NCAAs

En route to helping the Hoosiers finish 18th at the NCAA Championship meet in Minneapolis on Saturday, sophomore Eric Ress made All-America finishes look easy — even with a broken hand.



Sigma Nu knocks Cutters off top spot

With a time of 2:25.91, SNU members topped the Cutters’ 2:26.46 to chants from their brothers.
