Hoosiers take down Wolverines, remain undefeated at home

The IU men’s basketball team took down its third ranked foe of the season, knocking off No. 13/16 Michigan (12-3, 2-1) 73-71 on Thursday night at Assembly Hall. IU is now 11-0 at home and will look to go undefeated at Assembly Hall for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

For the No. 10 IU men’s swimming and diving team, this weekend’s dual meet at No. 4 Michigan is about rebounding from an earlier loss. For the No. 8 women, this meet is all about not letting up after a previous victory against the same team.

New year brings personnel shake-ups to football team

Five players committed to IU since Dec. 11, all of whom will line up on the defensive side of the ball when the 2012 season starts. Four are from junior colleges, and one, defensive tackle Ralphael Green, is from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas.

Every time Michigan made a run at Indiana on Thursday night, the Hoosiers answered. In a game where the Hoosiers never trailed, IU (14-1, 2-1) made numerous crucial plays down the stretch in earning a 73-71 victory against Michigan (12-3, 2-1) at Assembly Hall.

Three weeks to the day after No. 13/15 IU shook the college basketball world by beating No. 1 Kentucky, the Hoosiers had one more upset left in them in 2011.

Game of runs hands IU first loss

After freshman forward Cody Zeller averaged 15.1 points per game prior to Big Ten play, Michigan State held him scoreless for all but thirty seconds of Wednesday's 80-65 victory against the Hoosiers. The game, which included a 25-2 Hoosier run and a 20-0 Spartan run, marked the first loss of the season for the Hoosiers (12-1). Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo said he was "not pleased" with the ebbs and flows of the game.

It was inevitable. A loss. Those will happen when IU is playing without a sophomore who averaged 10.7 points a game in Will Sheehey.  It will happen when the opposition is 38-5 at home in the past three seasons, dating back to the 2009-2010 campaign.

Roth carries IU with second-half outburst in rout against UMBC

IU junior forward Derek Elston went down a week ago after catching an elbow to the nose in practice. IU sophomore forward Will Sheehey went down yesterday in practice after stepping on a basketball and rolling an ankle. IU senior guard Verdell Jones III went down after suffering a hip injury in Thursday’s game. With three IU players down, senior guard Matt Roth stepped up.
