New survey raises doubts regarding Title IX in NCAA

INDIANAPOLIS -- NCAA President Myles Brand criticized a new survey schools can use to demonstrate compliance with Title IX, saying it doesn't adequately reflect the interest in women's athletics and could harm its growth.

Utah's Bogut leading vote-getter on AP

Andrew Bogut was just another international player when the college basketball season started, not even meriting an honorable mention in the preseason All-America balloting. All that has changed now for the 7-foot sophomore from Australia. The Utah center was the leading vote-getter on The Associated Press' All-America team announced Tuesday.

With the weather resembling the middle of winter more than the second official day of spring, the IU softball team took the field Tuesday afternoon to face in-state rival Ball State. The Hoosiers wasted no time getting started, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first inning.

It's official. Mike Davis will return to Bloomington next season as head coach of the IU men's basketball team, IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan formally announced Tuesday morning in a press release.

Pacers brawl defendant seeks to question prosecutor

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- A lawyer for the man accused of starting the Nov. 19 brawl at The Palace by throwing a drink at Indiana Pacers player Ron Artest is seeking the testimony of Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca.

IU hopes to capitalize offensively

After earning six wins in nine days at a tournament in Bradenton, Fla., the Hoosiers return to action at home against Ball State today. IU will be playing at Sembower Field for only the third time this season with a 1-1 record, including their latest loss to Butler last week. Behind a powerful offense and stellar pitching, the Hoosiers hope to continue accumulating wins before heading into Big Ten play next week.

Athletics department: Davis stays

IU coach Mike Davis will return next season to coach the Hoosiers, a source in the athletics department said Monday. The official announcement will come today in the form of a press release, IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan said. However Greenspan refused to comment further.

Dubuque siezes IU's first NCAA wrestling title in 15 years

The Hoosiers began the season unheralded and unranked. But they didn't finish it that way. Wrestling in St. Louis during the weekend, junior Joe Dubuque was crowned the NCAA 125-pound champion, capping one of the greatest seasons in IU history. Dubuque became the first grappler to appear in a title match since Roger Chandler in 1997, and the first to win since Brian Dolph in 1990.

Wilson jumps to 2 NCAA championships

The Hoosiers entered the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with aspirations of national glory. Returning two NCAA runners-up and one reigning NCAA champion, IU seemed guaranteed to impress on the nation's biggest stage. The team did not disappoint, finishing fifth in the nation, the highest NCAA finish of any IU squad during the winter sports season.

Coming off a tough seven-game road trip, the IU softball team returned to Bloomington this weekend for its first home games of the season. "We wanted to come out and show everyone what we're capable of," said sophomore Tory Yamaguchi.
