ALMOST

·

DURHAM, N.C. -- If anything, the IU men's basketball team can be classified as pesky. Down 33-21 at halftime of Tuesday's 54-51 loss to Duke University at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Hoosiers struck back with a lightning-quick 12-2 run to put them back into contention. And they refused to go away.

Unlikely lineup sparks IU's near second-half comeback

·

DURHAM, N.C. -- With junior forward Lance Stemler sidelined with a concussion and senior guards Rod Wilmont and Earl Calloway on the bench for most of the game, IU coach Kelvin Sampson looked to guards Armon Bassett and Errek Suhr to provide a spark for the Hoosiers Tuesday night against No. 11 Duke University.

Club offers singular, group competition

·

The IU figure skating club might well be the best-kept secret in IU team athletics. As a club sport, the club has enjoyed noteworthy success since its founding four years ago. The competitive team is ranked No. 1 in the Midwest and performed in the 2006 Intercollegiate National Figure Skating Competition in San Jose, Calif.

Put Up Your Dukes

·

The numbers don't necessarily play in IU's favor. The Hoosiers haven't played a game in nine days. Four years have passed since IU's last victory against Duke University. And the Blue Devils are 70-3 on their home court since that same year, 2002. But IU coach Kelvin Sampson and the Hoosiers say they are looking forward to the experience of playing one of the top teams in the country inside of one of the most raucous arenas in all of college basketball.

IU sweeps all 5 Hoosier Duals' matchups

·

This weekend marked the most successful match of the still young IU wrestling season. IU scored a perfect 5-0 performance in its only home match this fall. Four members of the team also went 5-0 Saturday at the Hoosier Duals in Assembly Hall. Freshman Angel Escobedo, one of the four Hoosiers to finish undefeated on the day, said he was pleased with his performance.

Freshman, senior duo leads 'point of attack'

·

Kelvin Sampson likes to talk about the "point of attack." He means the first thing opposing offenses and defenses see, whether it comes from pressure defense or the ball handler in a 3-on-1 fast break on the open floor.

Sampson searching for the Hoosiers' leader

·

Ask Earl Calloway, Rod Wilmont or D.J. White who the leader of the 2006 IU squad is, and they'll each give a different answer. They'll point to themselves and proclaim they're the leader of the Hoosiers.

Same Team, same game, same tradition?

·

Thirty years have passed since IU's perfect 32-0 season, with just three different coaches at the helm since. It's been almost 20 years since the Hoosiers' last national championship and four years since the team advanced beyond the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Legette-Jack becomes IU's 3rd coach in 3 years

·

Call it déjà vu. For the second year in a row, the IU women's basketball team is starting a new season with a new head coach. On April 19, Felisha Legette-Jack was named the new head coach of the Hoosiers, becoming the third person in a little more than 13 months to hold that position.

Legette-Jack's ride continues at IU

·

Felisha Legette-Jack has been on an emotional ride her entire life. Growing up in a single-parent home with her mother and two brothers, Legette-Jack -- the first-year coach of the IU women's basketball team -- looked to basketball in sixth grade as a way to break away from her shy demeanor. Her two brothers played basketball and convinced her to play. She turned out to be a natural.

A new start for junior college star Stemler

·

It didn't take long for Lance Stemler to figure out how to bring IU fans to their feet. At Hoosier Hysteria on Oct. 13, Stemler was introduced to the IU crowd -- the first time many had seen the junior college transfer -- with John Mellencamp's "Small Town" blaring in the background.
