IU Coach Kevin Wilson touched on a number of topics in his weekly press conference Tuesday.
Junior running back Darius Willis will miss the remainder of the 2011 season, a source with knowledge of the situation told IDS football columnist Justin Albers Tuesday.
Since the Hoosiers left South Bend, they have been the team many envisioned at the beginning of the season. The slow start has since become a distant memory after their solid performance in the first seven games.
Eighteen IU athletes will be inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame 2011 class on Sept. 30.

Coming into the season, IU Coach Todd Yeagley said he wasn’t sure what to expect from his team. Seven games in, most of those questions have been answered.
After leading the Hoosiers with 102 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown in Saturday’s victory against South Carolina State, true freshman running back D’Angelo Roberts was announced Monday as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Hoosier Nation’s blossoming love affair with Twitter has manifested itself into a simple, yet impactful hashtag: #iubb. Sure, it’s just four letters representing Indiana University basketball, but understand that the seemingly insignificant creation and subsequent popularity of #iubb is something not seen within any other basketball program’s online community, to my knowledge.
Senior safety Chris Adkins received a call from Co-Defensive Coordinator Doug Mallory after South Carolina State wide receiver Tyler McDonald scampered 69 yards for a touchdown Saturday. Since his Co-Defensive Coordinator Mike Ekeler is on the field, Mallory has to ring the field to speak to his players after such plays. The play against South Carolina State was the longest play against IU since Wisconsin wide receiver Jared Abbrederis caught a 74-yard touchdown on Nov. 13, 2010. Mallory pointed out that 130 of the Bulldogs’ 216 passing yards came on three plays (of 69, 23 and 38 yards) — all of which were to McDonald, a stat that Mallory said “just kills you.”
The Hoosiers posted a 935-stroke team tournament total, trailing two strokes behind James Madison. Michigan State took home the victory with an 892.
The Hoosiers emerged victorious for the first time in 2011, defeating South Carolina State 38-21 at Memorial Stadium to give Wilson his first victory as a college head coach.
IU committed a school-record 20 penalties for 176 yards. That’s absolutely inexcusable, especially at home. The Hoosiers were playing a lot of youngsters on the offensive line, but IU Coach Kevin Wilson has talked time and again about not making the same mistake twice.
After losses to Ball State and Virginia, IU Coach Kevin Wilson and the Hoosiers defeated Football Championship Subdivision opponent South Carolina State 38-21 Saturday.
Junior Orianica Velasquez fired away, but no one was there to send it home. That was a costly missed opportunity for the Hoosiers. Michigan went on to win the match 1-0 on a goal by Wolverine sophomore Shelina Zadorsky that hit the underside of the crossbar on its way in.
Despite the amount of solid shots and putts, the numbers were not what the IU men’s golf team wanted in the end. The Hoosiers finished 12th at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club, facing a field that included 10 of the Preseason Top-25. The team fell from sixth place in the first round to eighth place after the second, with a final 892-team tournament total.

The Hoosiers went into Athens, Ohio and came out victorious. After keeping a 3-0 lead, IU allowed two goals during the second half, but still managed to top No. 15 Ohio University, 3-2. Senior back Brenna Moeljadi scored twice with senior Jaclyn Zamudio netting her third goal of the season.
It was a weekend of ups and downs for the IU women’s volleyball team, but libero Caitlin Cox remained a model of consistency as the senior earned another All-Tournament team selection in San Diego. IU Coach Sherry Dunbar said there was a level of excitement in Cox’s face to play against the best competition IU has seen thus far. The Hoosiers won one match before dropping the next two in the University of San Diego tournament.
Entering weekend play IU goalkeeper Luis Soffner had been playing well. His success didn’t change, as he posted two shutouts to help keep the Hoosiers undefeated. The No. 9 Hoosiers (5-0-2) played to their second scoreless tie of the season with No. 14 St. Johns on Friday and Sunday defeated Rutgers 2-0.
