Colts fall to last place Jags

Jaguars 28, Colts 23 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fred Taylor delivered the punishment he promised and the Jacksonville Jaguars got a win not many people expected. Taylor scored a 32-yard touchdown with 1:08 left Sunday to lift the Jaguars to a surprising 28-23 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Hoosiers snap 11-game Big Ten losing streak

It's been an interesting week for junior Matt LoVecchio. Seven days removed from being forced to sit because of lingering effects of a concussion, LoVecchio scrambled for eight yards and dove head first across the goal line with 24 seconds remaining to score the winning touchdown in IU's 17-14 win over Illinois.

Hoosiers go slumpbusting

So, maybe it's understandable that IU's 17-14 win over Illinois didn't cause the Memorial Stadium crowd of 24,102 to charge the field and rip out the goal posts. But for a team that had lost 11 straight in the Big Ten, it must have felt like the weight of the world was lifted from their shoulders.

Big Ten season champs

Trailing 2-0 with 25 minutes left in the game most thought IU's 44-game Big Ten unbeaten streak, eight-game win streak and conference championship aspirations would all come crashing down. Most thought that -- except the Hoosiers who, Saturday night, in IU coach Jerry Yeagley's final regular season home game, came roaring back with three straight goals, beating Penn State 3-2 and capturing the Big Ten regular season championship for the eighth-straight season. IU (11-3-4, 5-0-1 Big Ten) earned the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament and will play the winner of Ohio State/Wisconsin 5 p.m., Friday. "There was not a player at halftime on our team that was thinking we couldn't be the Big Ten champs," Yeagley said. "They didn't sit there and mope with their heads down. When we came in at half and the main thing was to get their minds off the first half, we talked about the character we developed over the last eight games, the confidence we developed, and we go out and not try to do it all at once.

IU looks to end long conference losing streak

Man arrested for driving slain outfielder's SUV

One last home game

Seeking their ninth-straight victory, the second longest current win streak in the country, the Hoosiers will conclude the regular season Saturday night against Penn State for IU coach Jerry Yeagley's final regular season game. IU (10-3-4, 4-0-1 Big Ten) needs a victory Saturday to ensure the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament, which begins Thursday in Bloomington. A loss would hand the top seed to Michigan, who currently is two points ahead of the Hoosiers but with one conference loss -- that coming to IU 2-1 on Oct. 5 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Teams ready for 'Action' on the court

Freshman leading the way for IU with goal scoring

The IU women's field hockey team enters this weekend's Big Ten tournament with its best record in school history, 8-9. One of the reasons for the Hoosiers' improvement this year has been simple; they have done a much better job at putting the ball in the back of the net. Last year the team totaled 22 goals for the entire season. Entering this weekend's tournament, the Hoosiers have already scored 31 goals.

Overton ranked No. 1 college golfer

IU junior Jeff Overton did not win a golf tournament in his first two years as a member of the IU men's golf team. But the coaching staff still saw potential in the quiet Evansville, Ind., native. This fall, Overton lived up to that potential when he won all four tournaments the Hoosiers participated in earning a great deal of attention, including the No. 1 ranking in the country. It seemed every tournament in which Overton teed up, he broke some kind of record. At the Northern Intercollegiate, Overton tied his career 36-hole low score of 136 en route to his first collegiate victory. Next at the Hoosier Invitational Sept. 27-28, he finished with a 10-under-par 203 -- a school record for 54 holes.

Managers play big role for Hoosiers

Many fans might take for granted the job they do. They get equipment for players both before and after games and practice. LOS ANGELES -- The Williams sisters and Lindsay Davenport are out of the WTA Championships, leaving Belgians Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne in a race for the year-end No. 1 ranking. Clijsters holds the top spot this week by a slim 135-point margin over No. 2 Henin-Hardenne.
