Experienced Hoosiers familiar with national title setting

The IU men's soccer team's one-sided 4-0 victory over the unseeded University of Tulsa in Sunday's national quarterfinal match resembled the Hoosiers' 5-0 victory over Virginia Commonwealth University in the third round of last year's NCAA Tournament. Against VCU, five different IU players scored goals, all coming in the second half, much like Sunday's win, which saw all four goals against Tulsa coming in the second half.

With only one week having passed since the firing of former IU football coach Gerry DiNardo, speculation has begun about who his replacement will be. Among possible candidates rumored for the IU job is former Washington Huskies coach Rick Neuheisel.

Pac-10 commissioner wants coaches' votes public

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- California coach Jeff Tedford and the commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference called for coaches to make their votes public after California was dropped below No. 6 by six voters in the final poll. "It's something we need to know," said Tedford, who signed a five-year contract extension Monday. "One of the worst things that could happen is the votes being kept secret. If we had it to do all over again, I would hope that we'd make them public."

Perry returns to IU backcourt

IU coach Mike Davis reinstated senior Donald Perry Monday from his indefinite suspension for violating team rules, Davis announced in a press release. Benched since Oct. 15, Perry joins the Hoosiers after a 2-2 start heading into Wednesday's game against Notre Dame. During Monday's practice, Perry rode the stationary bike and watched practice from the sidelines.

AD enlists help in search for new coach

Less than one week after the firing of IU football Coach Gerry DiNardo, IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan announced that a search and screen committee has been formed to find the next coach for the Hoosiers. Attempts to reach Greenspan were unsuccessful.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Saturday afternoon, the Hoosiers let another one slip away. Ahead 54-41 with just more than 13 minutes left in the game, No. 7 University of Connecticut went on a 17-1 run, taking the lead and never looking back on its way to a 74-69 win in Hartford.

Hoosiers squeak past Louisville for win

After letting a 58-51 lead dwindle to a point with just more than a minute remaining in the game, the IU women's basketball team looked like it might fold under the pressure. Instead, timely free throw shooting and defense saved the day for the Hoosiers Friday in a 61-57 win against the University of Louisville.

Bears beat Vikings 24-14 at home

CHICAGO -- Chad Hutchinson, who was surfing in California a little more than two months ago, made his first Chicago start a memorable one, throwing three touchdown passes. Since the Bears (5-7) signed Hutchinson in September following a season-ending knee injury to Rex Grossman, he has spent most of time as a third-stringer.

Spain beats United States to win Davis Cup SEVILLE, Spain -- Andy Roddick searched out Carlos Moya in the throng of jumping, screaming Spanish tennis players, hoping to shake hands. Moya had just beaten Roddick 6-2, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5) Sunday to clinch Spain's second Davis Cup title -- and extend the U.S. team's drought in tennis' top team competition.
