After leaving high school early, Underwood joins IU

While the seniors at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, Ohio, are busy picking out dresses and tuxes for prom, Dennis Underwood is worrying about shoulder pads and cleats. Underwood, a freshman running back, became the first member of IU football coach Terry Hoeppner's inaugural recruiting class to make it to Bloomington. Underwood decided instead of sticking it out in high school for one more semester, he would join IU and hit the ground running as he enrolled in January.

Baylor beats Michigan State to capture women's NCAA title

NEW YORK -- Stephen Jackson celebrated his birthday by scoring 33 points and the Indiana Pacers beat the New York Knicks 97-79 Tuesday night despite a poor shooting night from Reggie Miller in his final appearance at Madison Square Garden.

Seniors lose in final conference game

Saturday night, with cool winds, a muddy field and competing against the NCAA basketball men's Final Four for spectators, the IU rugby team lost a closer-than-expected match against its strongest rival, Purdue. The match began with two quick tries by Purdue in the first five minutes on turnovers by IU's backfield. IU came back with a try and a field goal by sophomore fullback Ryan Horan.

Hoosiers look for Big Ten win on road trip

After losing a nail-biting, 3-2 game against Michigan State Saturday, the IU women's softball team will hit the road looking for its first conference victory of the season Friday against Illinois. The Hoosiers' first stop will be today, when they travel to Kentucky to face Louisville in a nonconference game before continuing Big Ten play. The Cardinals have won their last six games, including back-to-back shutouts of Mississippi State University during which the team managed to put up 22 runs on 23 hits.

Phelps begins summer post-trials training

IU tries to end 3-game skid against Indiana State at home

Wednesday's match-up between IU and Indiana State at Sembower Field will not only be a duel between players, but between coaches as well. In 21 seasons with IU, head coach Bob Morgan has accumulated 1,059 career wins, putting him No. 11 among the winningest active coaches in Division I baseball. In 30 seasons as ISU head coach, Bob Warn has accumulated 1,032 victories putting him No. 13 on the same list.

Hoosiers struggle in opener against MSU

After a grueling early season schedule, the IU softball team played its first Big Ten games of the season this weekend, losing twice to Michigan State. In less than favorable weather conditions, the Hoosiers (10-24 overall, 0-2 in conference) took the field Friday afternoon with junior pitcher Megan Roark on the mound.

Errors plentiful in 2 losses

The IU baseball team's first weekend of Big Ten play was highlighted by diving catches, home runs, errors and heavy winds. Unfortunately for the Hoosiers, not many of these worked in their favor. IU kicked off a four-game series against the Northwestern Wildcats Saturday and began the Big Ten season with a victory. IU coach Bob Morgan said he was pleased with his team's performance but knew the Hoosiers had their work cut out for them.

No. 2 Wildcats deal IU loss; Hoosiers respond with upset

This weekend's results weren't surprising for the Hoosiers in Bloomington, but the way the results played out might have been, as IU fell to No. 2 Northwestern but upended No. 35 Wisconsin. The biggest match for No. 36 IU (10-8, 4-1 Big Ten) was its second match, Sunday's 5-2 win over the Badgers (10-5, 4-1).

Weather, injuries slow team down

Wilson leads IU again in relays win

The men's track team barely escaped the 2nd annual Indiana Relays, held at IU's home track, with a three point win over Army, 153-150. The meet offered athletes solid competition in their hunt for regional qualifying marks. IU will host one of the NCAA Regional meets the last weekend in May.
