No. 15 Hoosiers head to Northwestern

·

The No. 15 IU women's swimming and diving team will head to Evanston, Ill., at 4 p.m. Friday to battle the Northwestern Wildcats in hopes of winning its final dual meet of the semester. The Hoosiers (4-2) will hit the road for the first time since beating Minnesota in enemy territory Oct. 29. Hoosiers will rest regulars during weekend's Open

·

On Nov. 27, IU placed 13 wrestlers at the Mat Town Invitational. For the University of Northern Iowa Open this Sunday, the No. 16 Hoosiers already know they will not have as many grapplers place. That is because IU is using this weekend to rest up and will not be sending as many wrestlers to compete. IU coach Duane Goldman said the Hoosiers will not be sending any of their regular starters to the Open, but rather will send a few backups to represent the team.

IU looks to return to transition game

·

It's not often that a coach goes back to the drawing board before a game against an opponent with a 1-2 record, but IU coach Mike Davis fully plans on it before Saturday night's home game against Eastern Michigan. After Wednesday's close loss to Duke, Davis felt his team played well with the exception of the first five minutes, but he expressed concerns about his squad abandoning its commitment to scoring in transition.

Killingsworth put up a career high 34 points and 10 rebounds in the Hoosiers 75-67 loss at Assembly Hall Wednesday night, outshining Duke forward Shelden Williams, who went for 13 points and nine rebounds. "I feel I was out there to prove myself," Killingsworth said. "He might have been guarding me like I was just another guy."

Packers look to spoil Bears' run

·

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It's gut-wrenching for Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman to talk about missing the playoffs, but at least his team can try to derail the Chicago Bears' playoff plans. "In our situation right now, we're not going to be in the playoffs. That's out of the picture," Sherman said Wednesday. "We certainly can revel in being the spoiler."

Here we go again

·

Davis extended his hand to shake Krzyzewski's just moments after raising it above his head in a frenzied celebration. The Hoosiers had just upset the No. 1 Blue Devils, throwing Davis and the Hoosiers onto the national stage -- a place Coach K was long accustomed to.

Double-OT loss in finals prevents victory for IU

·

While the IU student body took a break from school, ate leftovers and watched football, the IU hockey team stuffed itself with a full plate of hockey. During last week's break, IU took home second place in the Hoosier Thanksgiving Classic held in Carmel, Ind. With three familiar Division I teams competing, including Liberty University, Ohio State and Illinois, IU felt good about its chances coming into the tournament. The Hoosiers were able to win their first-round matchup against the Fighting Illini 6-1, but lost a heartbreaker in the championship to Ohio State 4-3 in double overtime.

Monroe to lead team effort in stopping Redick

·

For all of last season, senior guard Lewis Monroe sat on the bench in street clothes watching his team play. But despite sitting out, the Auburn transfer got some experience that would eventually prepare him for tonight's daunting task -- guarding Duke guard J.J. Redick. Monroe's defensive assignment in practice was often former IU swingman Bracey Wright, whom he chased around screens and pressured up the floor during scrimmages.

A key factor in tonight's game will be which player forces the other into foul trouble first.

STILL PERFECT

Tar Heels, Illini sequel not as intriguing as last year's title

·

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- As far as sequels go, this one probably is destined to be a flop -- North Carolina versus Illinois II. Think of it along the lines of "Speed 2," or perhaps "Grease 2." Either way, the rematch of last season's NCAA championship game should have a tough time equaling the original. "But it's still a big game," Illini coach Bruce Weber said Monday. "It's a good early season test for us. We'll learn more about our team." His counterpart, Roy Wiliams, certainly can say the same.
