Before Big Tens, IU women head to OSU

Johnson looks to spearhead charge to to Lady Buckeye

Senior Shannon Johnson, after a near mistake-free outing at the Lady Illini Invitational, looks to lead the charge this weekend as the Hoosiers head east to Columbus, Ohio, for the Lady Buckeye Invitational. Johnson received Big Ten Women's Player of the Week honors after her play at the Lady Illini.\nThis week, the team that took 5th place last weekend will look to build on that finish and ride some momentum into Big Ten Women's Golf Championships. The championships will be held in Bloomington on April 28.\nCoach Clint Wallman said he is happy with how his team is progressing, including Johnson's success. Wallman coached at New Mexico, where Johnson played her first three years before both made an exodus to Bloomington.\n"It's obviously a feat which has not been accomplished in IU history and she should be proud of receiving this honor for a second time," Wallman said in a statement. "Shannon has had a terrific spring season and is certainly deserving of this award. I look for her to continue her strong play through the end of this season and into the postseason."\nBut it isn't just Johnson's play that caught the eye of the rest of the Big Ten. Freshman Amber Lindgren has begun to take on a larger role for the Hoosiers. This past week in Champaign, Ill., while playing as an individual instead of with the team, Lindgren played a low 74. She finished tied for 10th overall with a 153.
