Offensive woes down IU

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- With just over five minutes left in the first half Tuesday night, IU guard Rod Wilmont stepped up to the free-throw line ready to shoot the second of the his two foul shots. Wilmont splashed the 15-footer and retreated comfortably down the court, having put his team up 21-14. It was the last time IU would expand a lead.

Parcells retires from Dallas after 4 years

IRVING, Texas -- Bill Parcells retired from coaching Monday, leaving the Dallas Cowboys after four years without a playoff win and just two weeks after a stinging wild-card loss to Seattle. During a 19-year career that also included coaching the New York Giants, New England Patriots and New York Jets, Parcells made it to three Super Bowls, winning twice with the Giants.

UPDATE: Indiana joins Top 25 for first time this season

Kelvin Sampson's first Indiana team is where most of his Oklahoma squads spent quite a bit of time. The Hoosiers moved into The Associated Press' Top 25 for the first time this season Monday, riding a five-game winning streak to No. 23 in the poll. "It does and it doesn't," Sampson said when asked if being ranked really matters. "I might be wrong, but it seemed we were ranked every week for the past five or six years at Oklahoma, and when you are good you take it for granted. With this team it does matter. It gives our kids confidence."

Down 21-3 in the second quarter of the Indianapolis Colts-New England Patriots AFC Championship game, it looked to many throughout the state of Indiana that it would be another "next year" type of season for Peyton Manning and the gang. "This could be the best moment of my life, or it could be the worst" said IU sophomore Mike Rowe, an Indianapolis native who was rooting for the Colts to advance to the Super Bowl. But late-game heroics from Manning and a late interception by Indianapolis cornerback Marlon Jackson sealed a 38-34 Indianapolis victory and a trip to Miami for Super Bowl XLI.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Peyton Manning's head was down, but he had to sneak a peak. With less than 30 seconds left, the Colts holding on to a four-point lead and the ball in notorious comeback kid Tom Brady's hands, Manning looked up -- just in time to see Colts cornerback Marlon Jackson intercept Brady and send the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl, sealing the biggest comeback in AFC Championship history. Manning and the Colts defeated the New England Patriots 38-34 after waiting years to get a shot at the Patriots at home in the RCA Dome, but it wasn't easy. "Our team went the hard way the whole year, but they hung tough," head coach Tony Dungy said.

Boilermakers upend Hoosiers for second straight game

Sharon Versyp's homecoming to IU didn't come with hugs and smiles. Instead, the former IU women's basketball coach stuck it to the Hoosiers as Versyp's No. 12 Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Hoosiers 81-58 in business-like fashion. The loss for IU came in the final regular-season matchup between the two teams this season, following a 73-51 loss at Purdue Jan. 14.

Both swim teams honor seniors with wins

As the IU men's swimming and diving team honored its seniors on Senior Day, it was the underclassmen who stole the show. The Hoosiers topped Missouri 153-146 at Councilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center Saturday.

Wrestling squad finishes weekend with win against Purdue, loss at Illinois

An unlikely sight was on display Friday night as Hoosier and Boilermaker fans sat side-by-side in the tight quarters of University Gym. The 2,500-seat gym was sprinkled with crimson and gold as patrons watched IU defeat Purdue 25-12 and improve to 10-0 on the season. Not less than two days after knocking off their in-state rivals, the wrestling squad lost to No. 16 Illinois on Sunday afternoon, 22-9.

Cue it up

Forget the Old Oaken Bucket. There's a new trophy in the IU-Purdue rivalry, and Isaac Stone Simonelli made it his mission to bring the prize to Bloomington. The IU pool team will travel to West Lafayette on Saturday to try to bring the "Old Oaken Cue" to Bloomington. In a competition that started last year, the winning team of the Hoosier-Boilermaker pool tournament claims the stick for one year and gets the privilege of painting their team's colors and the victory date on the cue, forever marking their victory. Purdue leads the rivalry 1-0. IU will bring eight players to challenge Purdue in a round-robin style tournament. The IU team hopes to paint its cream and crimson stripes and this year's date above Purdue's gold and black stripes to avenge last year's loss.

Former Hoosier coach interviewed by Miami
