Gonzales approved firing of attorneys, says former aide

WASHINGTON – Contrary to his public statements, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was deeply involved in the firing of eight federal prosecutors, his former top aide said Thursday, adding that the final decision on who was to be dismissed was made by Gonzales and President Bush’s former counsel.

Student playwright works to bring young audiences to theater

It’s safe to say that Paul Shoulberg knows a thing or two about writing for the stage. Since joining the Master of Fine Arts in playwriting program three years ago, the 30-year-old Kansas native has written seven full-length plays, a handful of 10-minute pieces and two one-acts – the majority of which have been features as either full-length productions or staged readings. Not bad for a guy who didn’t start writing until he was 23 years old and who, as a high-school student, never once attended a play.

IU looks to rebound in Big Ten opener

30-year-old man arrested for cocaine possession after long investigation

Police arrested a 30-year-old man on the 1700 block of North College Avenue at a traffic stop on charges of possessing more than three grams of cocaine, said Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. Jeff Canada.

Voyeur facing child-porn charges

A man arrested for voyeurism at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation building Feb. 6 is now facing charges of child pornography, according to IU Police Department reports. Christopher A. Casady, 40, of 400 Terrace Drive, was originally investigated by IUPD officers after someone reported a man peeping in the men’s locker room.

As far back as I can remember, flipping through the channels around this time of year always yields some sort of TV show chronicling the fanatical college students that flock to Florida beaches in hordes to drink, dance and bare it all on spring break. Some of the events are staged, filmed and broadcast in constant repetition with the help of MTV; others are brought to you by the good people from various corporate sponsors. One thing is for sure, no one is letting the college market take a vacation. While this sounds like all sorts of fun, I was far too exhausted for a good time of this caliber.

Hoosiers head to Cincinnati for 4-team regatta

The IU women’s rowing team will head to Cincinnati this weekend to compete against Cincinnati, Dayton and Eastern Michigan in what the Hoosiers hope is a promising race. “Without sounding too overconfident going into this race, we are the favorites to win,” coach Steve Peterson said. “We’ve won this race the past few years, and I would expect this year to be no different.”

Students hold Chinese language, culture festival
