Satisfying sustainability supporters

Everyone knows that IU is better than Purdue -- it's a simple fact of life. Our campus is more attractive, our academics better and even our lack of a real mascot is superior to their Purdue Pete. However, IU has been falling behind Purdue and many other universities in a very critical area: campus environmental sustainability. While our School of Public and Environmental Administration is no slouch, Purdue has both a Center for the Environment and an Interdisciplinary Center for Ecological Sustainability. What's going on here?

Number of Americans wounded in Iraq climbs higher

The Washington Post reported that members of the U.S. military wounded in action in Iraq last month rose to the highest number -- 776 -- since the attempt to retake Fallujah in November 2004. The total number of troops wounded in the Iraq war is more than 20,000. With the November elections approaching, should these statistics affect the results?

Man arrested for apartment robbery

A man was arrested early Monday morning after entering unlocked apartments and stealing residents' money, police said. Kevin D. Burchett, 22, was arrested at 4:38 a.m. Monday on preliminary charges of residential robbery and residential theft.

Online Only: Bloomington crash course

In my time in Bloomington, I've come to realize a few things: IU parking is a rip-off, riding the buses sucks and hardly anyone in this town knows how to drive. While I've seen idiot drivers from all over the country, Indiana drivers are among the worst. Don't worry, I'm not one of those trendy East coast kids dissing you redneck Indiana hicks. I'm actually from the Hoosier state, and because of my citizenship here, I've witnessed some spectacular feats in reckless driving.

Burn incident at Wal-Mart might bring 2nd suit

Three days after the family of a man severely burned in an August electrical fire at the new Bloomington Wal-Mart Supercenter filed suit against Wal-Mart and two other companies, a lawyer for another worker's family members said they are planning on suing.
