Canceling game is wrong move

·

IU and Texas Tech mutually agreed to cancel their game for the 2002-2003 season. This game would have brought former head coach Bob Knight to Assembly Hall for the first competition since Feb. 29, 1999, when IU orchestrated a 79-65 victory against Purdue.

Seniors accept role, responsibility

·

Senioritis occurs when someone is close to graduating, and sometimes, they fail to turn in their work and lose motivation. Batting more than .330 with eight home runs and 68 RBIs combined, seniors Dan Haegele and Blake St. Clair don't have the time to worry about catching the mental laziness that plagues seniors around this time of the year. They'll be busy playing the top-ranked team in the Big Ten during graduation ceremonies Saturday.

It's time for drilling in Alaska

·

The prospect of new Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards is dead in the water, Iraq has just cut oil exports and U.S. demand for cheap energy is rising by the minute. It's time for Congress to authorize oil drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge.

"Made" is money... without the swing

·

"Swingers" fans rejoice; Jon Favreau is back in style with "Made." But don't expect the two movies to be carbon copies of each other. They're about as different as my last two girlfriends.

Bush prepares corporate fraud plan

McConaughey, Bale fuel 'Fire'

·

I liked "Reign of Fire." I'll just get that out of the way now. I had a good old-fashioned, stuff-catchin' on fire fun time. And that's really the extent of it. The trick of enjoying a movie like "Reign of Fire" is to know exactly what you are in for. You're not going to see "Jaws" or "Lord of the Rings," but you're not going to see "Anaconda" either.

It's NOT just the winter blues

·

Recent IU graduate Amy Gibbs could study for six hours at a time without so much as a coffee break. So in early October when she began to lose her concentration after hitting the books for less than two hours, she suspected something was wrong. Headaches kept her from focusing on her studies and sleep consumed 14 hours of every day.

Bilingualism the way of the future

·

The idea that this country was founded by white people, for white people is a statement most people would consider to be backwards and repulsive. It implies this is nation designed for the advancement of whites over people of other races. This is a statement that, if said by a politician, would probably signal the end of his or her career.

MIAMI -- Thirteen current and former Miami police officers were accused in an indictment alleging they helped cover up wrongdoing in police shootings in which three people died. "Dreamer" on display at Artists' Row

·

Don't let artist Peter Lawrence's vibrant palette fool you when you see his work for the first time. Although his large-scale oil paintings are brilliantly colored, the greatest influences on his work have been tragic literature and poetry, in which the contradiction between the self and nature is evident. Lawrence, who studies philosophy as a hobby, bases his themes around the idea that every person feels they have had a tragic life, even the wealthy and the well-off.

Qualifications plagued by harsh conditions

·

Conditions were ideal during last year's Little 500 qualifications. Temperatures were in the mid 70s, and the wind was almost non-existent. This year, conditions weren't as friendly to riders. The temperature never rose above 40 degrees. In the morning the track was wet, but the moisture was not enough to compensate for the dry conditions during the past week. The track was loose by the afternoon and wind was a factor during the whole day.

Film epitomizes 'life in turmoil'

The Indiana Memorial Union Board's Live from Bloomington Committee will present the film "Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance," with a score performed live by composer Philip Glass and the Philip Glass Ensemble, 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Indiana University Auditorium. "Koyaanisqatsi," a 1983 film directed by Godfrey Reggio, shows contrasting scenes from America's natural and urban landscapes. It was awarded the Audience Award for Best First Feature Film at Filmex, and Glass's score was voted Best Original Film Score by the Los Angeles Film Critics. "'Koyaanisqatsi' is not so much about something, nor does it have a specific meaning or value," Reggio said in a press release. "'Koyaanisqatsi' is, after all, an animated object, an object in moving time, the meaning of which is up to the viewer. Art has no intrinsic meaning. This is its power, its mystery and hence its attraction. Art is free."
