America is in a recession and at war. A new kind of cotton is cultivated, bringing economic hope to the United States. The president decides the best way to create labor for this lucrative new market is to repeal the Fourteenth Amendment and reinstate slavery.

RPS will still take applications for Welcome Week assistants

RPS is looking for student volunteers to serve as Welcome Week assistants who are eager to plan events and talk about the IU campus. Official registration to be a Welcome Week assistant ended March 19, however, RPS will accept applications until all positions are filled, but they are on a first-come, first-serve basis, said Melanie Payne, director of summer orientation and Welcome Week.

IU employees volunteer their time at local animal shelter

Few pet owners like cleaning out their animal’s litter box. But IU employee Marne Potter willingly cleans dozens of cages every week. Potter shows up at the Bloomington Animal Shelter at 8:30 a.m. every Saturday and changes a whole kennel’s worth of litter boxes.

Iraq’s presidential council approved a law Wednesday that paves the way for provincial elections, giving a major boost to U.S.-backed efforts to promote national reconciliation on the fifth anniversary of the war. The move came two days after Vice President Dick Cheney visited Baghdad to press Iraqi leaders to overcome their differences and take advantage of a lull in violence to make political progress. Many Sunnis boycotted the January 2005 election in which Iraqis chose a parliament and provincial councils. The vote ushered in representational government, but it also gave majority Shiites and minority Kurds the bulk of power, including at the provincial level.
